Oscar Kelly Coats, age 81 of Smyrna died Wednesday February 25, 2015. He was a native of Conway, S.C. and was the son of the late, C.J. and Birdie King Coats. He was also preceded in death by his first wife, Joyce Coats. Mr. Coats was retired Master Sergeant with the United States Air force after a 26 year career. He had served in Korea, Vietnam, Germany, and Spain. Mr. Coats was director of LaVergne Adult co-ed Softball League. He is survived by his wife Rose Judy Coats; children, Sharon Martin and husband Wayne of Florida, Donna Smith of Arizona, Kelly Annette Coats of LaVergne; grandson; Collin Sanders, Patrick Sanders, both of Florida, Conner Smith of Arizona, Austin Coats, and Sammy Puleo both of LaVergne; great-grandson, Preston Sanders; brother, Jackie Coats and wife Judy of North Carolina; sisters, Hazel Coats and Mabel Buchanan both of North Carolina. Mr. Coats was always the life of the Party and the first one on the dance floor. His love for enjoying life everyday was a blessing not only to his family, but everyone he met. He never met a stranger! Funeral service will be 10:00 AM Monday at Woodfin Chapel, Smyrna. Burial will follow in Roselawn Memorial Gardens with military honors.Pastor Ed Irwin will officiate.
