WOODFIN MEMORIAL CHAPEL Mrs. Oleta Adams Allen, 89, of Murfreesboro went home to be with her Lord on October 12, 2009. Mrs. Allen was born on May 24, 1920 in Terrapin Neck, Texas, to Frank and Esther Adams. Mrs. Allen was preceded in death by her husband of 65 years, Rev. Carl B. Allen; and her great-grandson, Nathaniel Karl (Fidget) Dickerson. She is survived by sons David Oliver Allen of Kingsland, Georgia; James Patrick Allen of Murfreesboro; and Carla Jean Allen Dickerson of Nashville. She has five grandchildren: Patricia Faith (Clarence) Hawkins, Joelton, TN; Michael James (Candi) Dickerson, Springfield, VA; David Braxton (Susan) Dickerson, Murfreesboro, TN; Bethany Melissa Allen Spear, Nashville, TN; and Lucy Adams Allen, White Bluff, TN; and four great-grandchildren: Campbell Michaela Dickerson, Springfield, VA; Erik Andrew and Falcon Gaven Dickerson, Murfreesboro, TN; and Abbigail Julianna Richardson, White Bluff, TN. She is also survived by one brother, Roy Douglas (Anna) Adams of Mt. Sylvan, Texas, and many nieces and nephews. Mrs. Allen grew up on her familys farm in Mt. Sylvan, Texas, with seven brothers and sisters. She graduated from high school as Valedictorian of her class and went on to graduate from East Texas State Teachers College in Commerce, Texas, with a Bachelor of Arts degree and went on to become a junior high and high school English teacher. After marriage, Mrs. Allen served alongside her husband in the ministry in Texas, Alabama, and Tennessee. She was a gracious pastors wife, a teacher, and a nurturing mother. She was a devoted, loving, and supporting grandmother. She taught ladies Sunday school classes for many years. She was a faithful servant of the Lord and loved people and loved to help them. After her husband retired from the pastorate, Mrs. Allen served alongside him as a houseparent at the Tennessee Baptist Childrens Home campus in Johnson City and Franklin. Rev. and Mrs. Allen were faithful members of Third Baptist Church. The family would love for friends to visit with them from 11:00 AM till 1:00PM Friday at Woodfin Memorial Chapel in Murfreesboro, followed by the funeral service at 1:00PM. Friday Rev. Steve Hutson of Third Baptist Church and long-time family friend will officiate. Interment will be in the Fountain Lawn section of Roselawn Memorial Gardens, Murfreesboro, TN. Pallbearers will be grandsons, Clarence Hawkins, Michael Dickerson, and David Dickerson, long-time family friend Michael Lewis, Vern Morse, and Andy Lile. The family wishes to express thanks and gratitude for the many friends who have ministered to us in so many ways during the difficult days of recent years, especially Rev.
