Obituary

Mrs. Odie (Sue) Miller, age 96, passed peacefully into the arms of her beloved Lord Monday, November 16, 2015. She was born to the late Ellis and Samantha Travis Davenport on October 10, 1919. Mrs. Miller was preceded in death by her devoted husband of 58 years, Redmon Hindmon Miller. She is survived by her two daughters, Shirley Miller and Peggy Miller of Murfreesboro; one sister, Mildred Reed of Readyville; and sister-in-law, Ella Mae Davenport of Texas.

Mrs. Miller was also preceded in death by five brothers, McKinley Davenport and his wife Ruby, Clarence Davenport and his wife Georgia Pearl, Cebern Bennett Davenport and his wife Eva Mae, Raymond Douglas Davenport, and Guy James Davenport; and four sisters, Carrie Duff Mingle and her husband Hoyte, Mamie Tenpenny and her husband Jessie Clyde, Clara Mae McKnight and her husband Ruel, and Myrtle Claar and her husband Fred and also her first husband Warren Hornbeek.

She was a member of Kelley's Chapel United Methodist Church, Walter Hill. She taught children's Sunday School classes and served as church treasurer for 45 years. Mrs. Miller was an active 4-H leader for 20 years. She was in the Double Springs Home Demonstration Club/Family & Community Education Club serving as President. She was a volunteer with Cannonsburg, Oaklands Mansion, and the Sam Davis Home demonstrating quilting and butter churning.

Mrs. Miller was the oldest member of the Rutherford County Farm Bureau Women's Leadership Committee continuing to assist with programs for school children until age 95.

She was an avid flower gardener and provided floral arrangements for her church. Her flower gardens were admired by all passing by her homes on East Jefferson Pike and East Clark Blvd. Her daughters will design a new perennial flower bed for her daughters' home to continue this tradition and in honor of their beloved mother.

Chapel service will be Friday, November 20, 2015 at 10:00am at Woodfin Memorial Chapel. Visitation will be Thursday, November 19, 2015 from 3:00pm until 8:00pm at Woodfin Memorial Chapel, Murfreesboro.
