Obituary

Norman Wesley Bill Cavender, age 84, of Murfreesboro died Saturday May 28, 2011. He was the son of the late, Jesse T. and Tommie Elizabeth Parrott Cavender and was born on November 28, 1926 in Bemis, Tennessee. He was a disciple of Jesus Christ, who earnestly sought to be a New Testament Christian. He was a conscientious student of the Bible, who through diligent study committed to useful memory most of the New Testament scriptures. A family man of the highest order, he was a devoted and loving husband of over 62 years, an outstanding father and provider and a very proud and affectionate grandfather and great-grandfather. He was a patriot who enlisted at age 17 to serve in the United States Navy during World War II. Upon return from military service and while attending college, he began serving as a minister of the gospel of Christ and for over 63 years worked with Churches of Christ in Tennessee, Texas, Alabama and Kentucky. He was a friend and encourager in the faith to many. He went home to his heavenly father having fought the good fight and kept the faith. Mr. Cavender is survived by his wife, Marinel Raines Cavender; sons, Paul Cavender and wife Debra of Birmingham, Philip Cavender of Murfreesboro, Dr. Brad Cavender and wife Shelley of Birmingham, Bart Cavender of Murfreesboro; brother, Robert C. Cavender of Maryville TN; sister, Catherine C. Woodson of Woodbury; seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. In lieu of flowers, memorials are encouraged in the memory of Bill Cavender to Alive Hospice, 1718 Patterson St. Nashville TN 37203. Funeral service will be 11:00AM Wednesday at Woodfin Memorial Chapel with sons Paul Cavender, Philip Cavender, Brad Cavender and grandson Matt Cavender to officiate. Burial will be 6:00 PM Wednesday at Ebenezer Cemetery near Malesus, TN, which is south of Jackson.
