Norma Jean Clouse West was welcomed into the loving arms of Jesus on Thursday, October 1, 2026. She was born on February 12, 1960, in Sparta, Tennessee, to Wilma and James “Jim” Clouse. Norma grew up in Sparta, where she was involved in many leadership roles and enjoyed art and craft activities in her spare time.
Norma went on to become a nurse, dedicating her entire adult life to caring for others. Whether professionally or personally, caring deeply for those around her is something Norma will be most remembered by. She gave so much of herself to the people around her and touched countless lives through her kindness, compassion, and sincere love for others.
Norma met and married the love of her life, James Keith West. They shared 39 blissful years of marriage, building a life together and raising their two sons, Drew and Matt. From attending countless sporting events to traveling often as a family, being a wife and mom was at the core of Norma’s being, and she treasured every moment spent with her three favorite men.
Norma is preceded in death by her father, Jim Clouse, and her mother- in- law and father-in-law, Sible and James West.
She is survived by her beloved husband, Keith; her mother, Wilma; her sons, Drew (Jackie) and Matt (Katie); and her precious granddaughters, Annie and Merritt, who lovingly called her “Honey.” She is also survived by her sister, Sondra (Ronnie); her brother, Eddie (Debbie); her sister-in-law, Annette (Harvey); and many nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts and close friends who were like family.
When Norma wasn’t working as a nurse, she most enjoyed spending time with her family and friends. Of all the titles she held in her life, her favorite was undoubtedly “Honey” to her two granddaughters, whom she lovingly adored. She loved traveling with her family and friends, especially anywhere with palm trees. While she loved her boys, she particularly enjoyed a fun girls’ day, whether it meant shopping, hanging by the pool with her friends, or being pampered with a hair appointment, fresh nails, a facial, or a massage.
Norma had a way of lighting up every room she entered. She rarely failed to have a smile on her face, and she had a remarkable gift for making every person around her feel as though they were the only person in the room. Norma loved to celebrate all of life’s wins - big or small. Whether it was throwing a beautiful shower for a loved one or gifting small mementos of joy to simply celebrate being together, she so naturally made those around her feel special. She loved people deeply and generously, and she made friends wherever she went.
Above all, Norma loved Jesus and lived her faith in a way that was evident to everyone who knew her. She was consistently in prayer for the people she loved and modeled what it meant to live in friendship with Jesus. Her faith, her love for others, and the joy she carried with her will be part of her legacy for generations to come.
Norma will be deeply missed by her family, friends, and the many people whose lives she touched. While her family grieves the tremendous loss of her presence, they find comfort in knowing that she is now resting in the loving arms of our Savior, whom she loved so dearly.
Funeral services will be held at Woodfin Funeral Chapel, Smyrna on Thursday, October 8, 2026. The family will receive friends from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m., with a service immediately following. In honor of Norma’s love of flowers and her joyful spirit, the family invites friends and loved ones to wear bright colors or florals to the service.
A private graveside burial will be held at 11:00 a. m. on Friday, October 9, 2026, at O’Connor Church of Christ Cemetery in Sparta, Tennessee with Drew West, Matt West, Kyle Clouse, Don Nichols, Ronnie Fleming, and Casey Wagner serving as pallbearers.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Norma’s honor to the March of Dimes, an organization close to her heart through her active participation in fundraisers and her deep love for babies and her work in labor and delivery.
