Dr. Newell S. Moore, Professor Emeritus at Middle Tennessee State University, age 82, of Murfreesboro, passed away on Monday, January 19, 2009. Dr. Moore was preceded in death by his parents, Newton S. and Rubie Moore, his son, Terry L. Moore, and brothers, Warren Moore, and Dr. Maurice Moore. Dr. Moore is survived by his wife, Sue Moore; daughters, Susan (Mark) Harvin and Margaret (Mike) Todd both of Murfreesboro; grandchildren, Andrew Todd, Taylor Harvin, Allie Todd and Matthew Todd. Funeral service will be at 1pm Wednesday at Woodfin Memorial Chapel with Rev. Perry Muse and Dr. John Horn officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4-7pm Tuesday. Dr. Moore received his BA, MA and PhD from George Peabody College in Nashville and taught at Cumberland University in Lebanon, TN, Arkansas A & M College, and taught for over 40 years in the History Department at Middle Tennessee State University. Dr. Moore was a charter member of Northminster Presbyterian Church, where he had served as an Elder and Sunday school teacher. Dr. Moore was an avid reader and stamp collector.
