Neal R. Odom, age 89, of Smyrna died peacefully on Friday, October 17, 2014. He was a native of Rutherford County and was preceded in death by his first wife, Shirley Hardes Odom, his mother, Gladys Robinson Odom, his sisters, Irene Odom Keyes, Janelle Odom Reeder, Loyce Odom Adkerson and his brother, Eugene Odom. He was a member of Lifepoint (formerly 1st Baptist Church of Smyrna). He worked as chief operator of Smyrna Water Treatment Plant, a school bus driver, a cattle farmer/trader, and enjoyed raising Tennessee Walking Horses. Mr. Odom is survived by his wife of 49 years, Anne Elizabeth Swain Odom, three children, Gary Odom and his wife Tracie, Peggy Odom Steele and her husband Steve, and Larry Odom, all of Smyrna; eight grandchildren, Chandler, Carson and Corwin Odom, Andrew, Rion and Matthew Steele, Nicole Odom Webb and her husband Barrett, and her sister, Paige Odom; one great-grandson, Brixton Webb; three brothers, Leonard Odom and his wife Margaret, Wayne Odom, Kenneth Odom and his wife Ruth, and two sisters, Cornelia Stewart and Juanice Winchester and her husband Jim. Funeral service will be Sunday at 3:00PM on October 19, 2014 at LifePoint Church on Legacy Drive in Smyrna. Dr. Lenny Farmer will officiate and burial will follow in Mapleview Cemetery. Visitation with the family will be Saturday from 4:00PM to 8:00PM at Woodfin Chapel in Smyrna and Sunday at LifePoint Church from 2:00PM. to 3:00PM.
