Nanette "Nan" Hatheway

Nan Hatheway, age 67, passed away peacefully on August 14, 2026, after a long and courageous battle with breast cancer. Born on August 31, 1958, Nan was the firstborn of a set of twins, beginning a life that would be filled with love, family, and meaningful connections. She will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing and loving her.

She was preceded in death by her father, Robert Hatheway. She is survived by her caring husband, Ray Elliott; her beloved mother, Charlotte Hatheway; and her sisters, Ann Batchelor (Kent), Valerie Reeves (Raphe), and Amber Charboneau (Allen).

Nan spent many years working as a physical therapy assistant at NHC, where she dedicated herself to helping others and touched the lives of many through her kindness, compassion, and caring spirit. Her work allowed her to make a difference in the lives of those she cared for, and she was appreciated by both the people she served and the colleagues who knew her. Outside of work, Nan found joy in the simple things in life, especially spending time at the beach, a place she loved and treasured.

Although she did not have children of her own, being an aunt was one of the most meaningful and cherished roles in her life. She was a loyal and loving aunt to her six nieces and nephews: Chelsea Claiborne; Nathan and Brett Solomon; and Sebastian, Manfred, and Lillian Charboneau.

One of Nan’s greatest joys was choosing thoughtful Christmas and birthday gifts for her beloved nieces and nephews. She took great care in selecting something special for each of them, putting thought and love into every gift. Giving to the people she loved was one of the ways Nan showed just how much they meant to her, and those gifts will always carry the memory of the love behind them.

Nan shared an especially precious and unique bond with her niece, Chelsea. Their relationship was much more than that of an aunt and niece. Nan was like a second mother to Chelsea, always there with love, encouragement, guidance, and unwavering support. She was a constant and devoted presence in Chelsea’s life, and the love they shared was truly one of a kind. Their bond was a beautiful and lasting part of both of their lives.

Throughout her life, Nan gave so much of herself to the people she loved. Even through the challenges of her long battle with breast cancer, she remained deeply connected to her family and to the people who mattered most to her.

She will be remembered for the love she gave so freely to her family, her unwavering loyalty to those she cared about, her compassion for others, her love of the beach, and the special place she held in the hearts of her nieces and nephews. Her presence will be deeply missed, but the love she gave and the memories she created will remain in the hearts of her family and friends forever. Rest peacefully, Nan. You were deeply loved, and you will never be forgotten.

Visitation with the family will be Thursday, August 20, 2026 from 1:00-3:00 PM at Woodfin Memorial Chapel. Memorial service will follow at 3:00 PM.
