Mrs. Myra (Laneal) Cathey Young, 83, died Friday, August 12th, 2016 at the Waterford Assisted Living Center in Smyrna, TN. She was surrounded by family and friends. Myra had resided in Madisonville, KY for 42 years prior to her move to TN.

She was born January 14, 1933 in Dyersburg, TN, to the late Willie May Cathey and Herman Lee Cathey. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister, Rowena Cathey.  Myra Cathey Young was married to Wana Baker Young for 51 years before his death in 2008.

Myra was a member of the Madisonville First Baptist Church where she also served as the pastor's secretary for many years. In addition to her work, she enjoyed spending time with her family, participating in Young At Heart activities and traveling. Her other pastimes included reading, working puzzles, watching movies, playing the piano and painting.

She is survived by her daughter, Leah Gay (Larry) Loiseau of Nolensville, TN; her son, Joel Young of Bowling Green, KY and her treasured grandchildren, Chris, Jessica and Alex (Meagan) Young.

Visitation with the family will Thursday, August 18, 2016 from 4:00pm until 7:00pm at Barnett-Strother Funeral Home, 2285 North Main Street, Madisonville, KY 42431 and on Friday, August 19, 2016 from 12:00noon until service time. Funeral services will be Friday, August 19, 2016 at 2:00pm at Barnett-Strother Funeral Home. Burial will be in Hanson Cemetery.
