Murel Thomas Grant, age 79 passed away Friday, November 11, 2016 at Community Care of Rutherford County after an extended illness.

Mr. Grant was a native of Grayson County, Kentucky and resided next to his daughter in the Blackman Community for 13 years.  He was the son of the late Lee Grant & Elizabeth Pearl Lush Grant.  Mr. Grant was also preceded in death by, sons-in-law; Bart Smith and Keith Bratcher; siblings, Alberta Grundy, Carolyn Drane, Estelle McFadden, Bobby Grant, James Grant and Wilford Grant and his wife's parents; Shelby & Mary Richard Sims.

Mr. Grant was retired as owner/operator of Grant's Concrete Construction and a farmer.  He was an avid University of Kentucky basketball fan, watching countless games while dressed in his UK athletic gear most all of the time.

Survivors include his devoted and loving wife of 58 years, Frances LaVerne Sims Grant; son, Gregory Thomas Grant of Murfreesboro, TN; daughters, Patty Bratcher of Leitchfield, KY,  Beth Fuqua of Murfreesboro, TN,  Clarissa Smith (Jimmy Cassidy) of Murfreesboro, TN and Laura (Jasper) Boner of Lavergne, TN; grandchildren, Ryan (Erin) Bratcher of Hodgenville, KY, Katy (Josh) Newton of Caneyville, KY,  US Navy Corpman Brandon (Zoe) Grant of Newport, Rhode Island, Lindsey (Joseph) Fuqua Jenkins of Bowling Green, KY and Shelby Fuqua of Hermitage, TN, Alex & Sydney Cassidy of Murfreesboro, TN; great-grandchildren, Hunter Keith Bratcher, Jocelyn & Audrey Newton; sister, Aileen Grant Tilford Higdon; brother, David Grant of Leitchfield, KY and his wife's family; Judith Sims Warren, James Richard Sims and Marian Sims of Leitchfield, KY, Faye Sims Constant of Owensboro, KY,  Michelle Sims Knobloch of Newtown, PA and Warren Patrick Sims of Metamora, MI.

Visitation will be Sunday, November 13, 2016 from 11:00am to 2:00pm at Woodfin Memorial Chapel. Funeral service will be 2:00pm Sunday at Woodfin Memorial Chapel with F ather Delphinus Mutajuka officiating. Burial will follow at Washington-Smith Cemetery, 3637 Manson Pike Murfreesboro, TN. Active Pallbearers will be Shawn Sims, Josh Newton, Bob Williams, Clint Jernigan, Nathan Reed and Paul Fuqua.

In lieu of flowers, memorials in memory of Mr. Grant may be made to Alive Hospice 1807 Patterson Street Nashville, TN 37203, American Cancer Society - Rutherford County Relay for Life, or to the Twin Lakes Regional Medical Center Relay for Life.
