Modelle E. Shivers, age 99, passed away at her home in Smyrna, TN on Monday September 1, 2014. She was born February 1, 1915 in White County, TN to the late Ulysses S. and Lona Weaver Cravens. The family moved to Oakland City, IN when she was 14. Mrs. Shivers and her late husband, Raymond H. Shivers, were married in Texas in May of 1941 and lived in Texas and Colorado. She moved to Smyrna following his death in 1999 to be near her family. She was also preceded in death by a brother Comer Cravens and three sisters, Birdie Mae Maxwell, Nancy Pierce and Verta Perry. Survivors include Jim Maxwell and his wife Nadine, Mary Ann Derryberry and her husband Larry, Nancy Gatlin, Jerry Cravens, Ginger Finch and her husband Joe, Jack Cravens and his wife Deena, Barbara Papadopoulos and James Pierce and his wife Sue, and a host of great nieces, nephews and their children. Mrs. Shivers faithfully served as a Jehovah's Witness for over 70 years. Visitation will be 12:00 noon until the time of funeral services beginning at 2:00pm, Thursday, September 4, 2014 at Woodfin Chapel, Smyrna with Bro. Roger Oldenberg officiating. Graveside services will be held in the Beaird Cemetery in Smith Co, Texas under the direction of Hilliard Funeral Home, Van, TX.
