Minerva Cowan Shacklett, age 92, of Murfreesboro, TN died Sunday, September 2, 2012. A native of Whitwell, TN she was the daughter of the late John Seabird Cowan and Dora Holloway Cowan. She was also preceded in death by her sister, Alma Childers and her brother Mitchell Cowan. Funeral services will be Friday at 11:00AM at First Presbyterian Church in Murfreesboro. Reverend John Hinkle will officiate. Burial will follow in Evergreen Cemetery. Mrs. Shacklett is survived by her husband of 70 years, Dr. William White Shacklett of Murfreesboro; daughter, Nancy Shacklett Turpin Ammerman and her husband Ed of Murfreesboro; granddaughter, Elizabeth Turpin Hamby and her husband Jeff of Murfreesboro and grandson, Paul Arthur Turpin and his wife Maria Stephanie of Knoxville, TN; and four great-grandchildren, Ivan Fisher, Margaret Minerva Hamby, Melvin Hamby and Lucy Turpin. Mrs. Shacklett was a member of First Presbyterian Church. She was a graduate of the Tennessee College for Women. Mrs. Shacklett was a charter member of Oaklands Association, a member of the Francis Bohannon Music Club, The Charity Circle of Murfreesboro, the Womens Club and the Womens Auxillary of Rutherford Hospital. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers. Memorials can be made to The Charity Circle of Murfreesboro, Belmont University, Oaklands Association and the Good Shepards Home.
