James Milton Douglas, age 78, passed from this world into eternity to be with Jesus Christ on Saturday, January 21, 2017. He was a dedicated, faithful Christian for many years at Hillview Baptist Church in Murfreesboro.

Milton was a native and life-long resident of Rutherford County. He graduated from Murfreesboro Central High School in 1956. He was one of Lee Pate's boys, playing football as well as being a Golden Gloves boxer and trained as a wrestler. He served in the United States Marine Corps; and he was employed at Haynes Bros. Lumber Company for several years. He retired with honors following 30+ years of service as a Captain with the Tennessee State Troopers. He liked to work with old cars and restored several. He also enjoyed woodworking and making furniture.

Milton was preceded in death by his parents, E. L. Douglas and Elizabeth Goforth Douglas; sister, Mai Dell Douglas Drake; brother, Winston; half-sisters, Lily Perry and Martha Pitts; and half-brother, E. L. Douglas, Jr.

Milton is survived by his loving wife, Martha June Wade Douglas, to whom he was married for almost 55 years; and his brother, Roy Lee Douglas and his wife Treva all of Murfreesboro. Other survivors include his niece, Marilynn Carvalho; nephew, Mike Drake both of Murfreesboro; and several nieces and nephews.

Visitation with the family will be Tuesday, January 24, 2017 from 11:00am until 2:00pm at Hillview Baptist Church. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, January 24, 2017 2:00pm at Hillview Baptist Church. Rev. Thomas Brantley and Rev. Owen Ivery will officiate. Deacons at Hillview Baptist Church will serve at pall bearers. Burial will follow in Republican Grove Cemetery with military honors.
