Merle E. Horton, 91, died Monday, November 30, 2009 at Middle Tennessee Medical Center in Murfreesboro, TN. Visitation will be at Woodfin Memorial Chapel, 1488 Lascassas Pike, Murfreesboro, TN 37130, December 2nd, from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM. Funeral Services will immediately follow. Burial services will be in Sioux Falls, SD on Saturday. Merle Effie Becker, daughter of Paul and Hulda (Holyer) Becker, was born November 15, 1918 in Sioux Falls, SD. She graduated from Washington High School in 1937. She lived in Sioux Falls until 1997, when she moved to Murfreesboro, TN to be closer to her daughter and grandchildren. On September 16, 1942, Merle was united in marriage with Leo L. Horton in Sioux Falls. Leo died May 20, 1995. Merle worked as the office manager at Morrells Credit Union for 23 years until her retirement in 1983. Merle was a member of First Baptist Church in Sioux Falls, SD and World Outreach Church in Murfreesboro, TN. Grateful for having shared Merles life are her daughter, Stephanie Mortinsen of Murfreesboro, TN; three grandsons, David (Christy) Mortinsen of La Vergne, TN, Darin Mortinsen of Murfreesboro, TN, and Dayna (Renee) Mortinsen of Murfreesboro, TN; six great-grandchildren, Megan, Justin, Paige, Cassidy, Ethan, and Kristin; several nieces and nephews and cousins: and a host of other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Leo; four brothers, Lawrence, Glenn, Bennie, and James; and two sisters, Lola Iverson, and Mildred Nuffer.
