Mary Lozell King Wilson, age 85, of Smyrna, TN, went to be with the Lord on Saturday, November 12, 2016. She was born to Thomas A King and Mattie Lovain King on Sept. 3, 1931 in Dalton, GA. She graduated from Valley Point High School in 1949, where she was on the Greenwave Basketball Team.
Mary married H. Russell Wilson Sept. 3, 1953 in Columbus, GA. Their son Victor Farrell was born at Ft. Benning, GA, in 1954 and their daughter, Wanda Jean was born at Ft. Bragg, N.C, in 1955.
Her career began in Columbus, GA. where she graduated nurse's training in 1953. She worked many years as a Registered Nurse and at Military Hospitals in Ft. Bragg, N.C., as well as the Phillipines as a volunteer. She also worked in Dalton, GA. for Dr. John Looper and in Hamilton Memoiral Hospital before and after returning from the Philippines. She then moved to Smyrna, TN and worked in the Smyrna Hospital and spent 23 years working as an Industrial Nurse for General Electric, in Murfreesboro, TN.
Mary was a loving wife, mother, daughter, sister, aunt, grandmother and friend. She loved visitors and visiting others. Which is why she was often found in her kitchen whipping up a fresh batch of cookies for friends throughout the community. She was always willing to listen and help.
She was preceded in death by her husband, M/Sgt. Hubert Russell Wilson who served in the U.S. Air Force for 27 years.
She is survived by her son, Victor Farrell Wilson, daughter, Wanda Jean Sliger and her husband Alan, grandson, Stephen Cutlip and granddaughters, Jacquelyn Cutlip, Ashley Wilson and Tiffany Wilson; sister, Eva Taylor and her husband Jack; sister in law, Ruby King McCurdy, along with many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Mary was a member of Highland Heights Church of Christ where she worked in the benevolent program. She was very active in fishing, bowling and golf. She made at least 2 hole in ones in her golfing career.
Visitation will be held Friday from 11:00 a.m. to 12:45 p.m.at Woodfin Chapel in Smyrna. Brother Wayne Cornwell will officiate. A graveside service will follow in Roselawn Memorial Gardens at 1:00 p.m.
Memorials in memory of Mrs. Wilson can be made to the Alzheimer's Association.
