Obituary

MARY ELIZABETH STEAGALL TAYLOR age 99 of the Bethel Community, died Saturday Dec. 6, 2008 at Middle Tennessee Medical Center. She was a native of Rockvale and the daughter of the late William and Cora Sutton Steagall, Sr. Funeral services will be 10:00AM Tuesday at Bethel United Methodist Church. Rev. Bob Niles and Rev. Joe Elliott will officiate. Burial will be in Roselawn Memorial Gardens. She is survived by three sons: Adm. Jimmie and wife Annette Taylor of Smyrna, Rev. W. Garie Taylor of Nashville, and Judge Royce and wife Susan Taylor of Murfreesboro, three sisters: Sara Lowe of Rockvale, Sue Jones of Murfreesboro, and Jane Bennett of Rockvale, one brother Howard Thomas of Murfreesboro. Grandchildren: Tracey Taylor and husband, Alexander Conde of Smyrna, Clay Taylor and wife, Dr. Wendy Rosenbek of Cowen, Shannon Davenport and husband Terry of Morristown, Cameron E. Taylor and husband Mark Woodcock of Elkins Park, PA, seven great-grandchildren: Bryce Taylor, Natalie, Allyson, and Lance Davenport, Sophia Woodcock, Todd and Ty Conde. Mrs. Taylor was the wife of the late James Wilkie Taylor who died in 1995, and was preceded in death by two grandsons, Todd L. Taylor and Jimmie W. Taylor, II. She was also preceded in death by brothers: William, Harry, Thomas, George, Waddey, and Jack Steagall, Grady and Charles Thomas. Mrs. Taylor was a member of the Bethel United Methodist Church for 65 years. She retired in 1960 as a registered nurse with the Rutherford County Health Department. She was the oldest surviving alumna from the Vanderbilt School of Nursing, and was honored last year as the oldest living MTSU female basketball player. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers. Memorials may be made to the Bethel United Methodist Church in memory of Mrs. Taylor. Visitation will be from 4:00PM to 8:00PM Monday at WOODFIN MEMORIAL CHAPEL. www.woodfinchapel.com. 893-5151.
