Mary Alice Short, age 89, of Smyrna, TN went to be with the Lord on Sunday, June 21st, 2015. A native of Rutherford County, she was preceded in death by her parents, James Peyton and Grace Estes Smith; and two sisters, Sarah Smith and Nelle Smith Summar. Funeral services will be Thursday at 2:00 p.m. at Powell's Chapel Baptist Church. Rev. Mike Smith will officiate. Burial will follow in Evergreen Cemetery. Mrs. Short is survived by her loving husband of 69 years, Bruce Short; sons, Sam (Joy) Short, Gerry (Patty) Short, and Dwayne Short; grandchildren, Melissa (Michael) Robinson, Lori (Tommy) Shelton, Samuel (Brooklyn) Short, Josh (Jamie) Short, Craig (Rachel) Short, Tyler Short, and Trenton Short; along with nine great-grandchildren. Mrs. Short was a life-long member of Powell's Chapel Baptist Church, a loving wife, and mother. Johnnie Leonard and grandsons will serve as pallbearers. Deacons of Powell's Chapel Baptist Church will serve as honorary pallbearers. Visitation will be Wednesday 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Woodfin Chapel in Smyrna and one hour prior to the service at the church on Thursday.
