Mary Lee Patterson passed away on November 7th, 2014 at Methodist Le Bonheur Hospital in Germantown Tennessee. Mary was born on July 14th, 1927 to Jack and Ruth Mathews in Johnstown, Pennsylvania where Jack was playing professional baseball in the Pittsburg Pirates organization. The family later returned to their Milton, TN family farm where Jack also owned and operated the general store and Ruth served as postmaster and telephone operator in that very same building. Mary attended Middle Tennessee State Teachers College. In 1945 Mary took the Civil Service exam resulting in her employment with the Veteran's Association.It was in there Mary met and later married John Austin Lee. Settling in Smyrna, over the next twenty four years John Austin and Mary lived a life of mutual devotion while raising a family consisting of Linda, John Jr., Steve and Laura. During these years Mary worked side by side with John Austin, and later their sons, at John Lee Company, the family owned business started in 1955. She was an active and devoted member of the Smyrna United Methodist Church where she was a longstanding participant in the choir. Mary served on several boards and was a Director of Murfreesboro Bank & Trust. She was passionate in her support of Smyrna Hospital, Smyrna Senior Citizens and Sam Davis Home. In her later years living in Memphis Mary volunteered at Primacy Healthcare and at the Wonder Exhibits. In addition to these professional accomplishments and community activism in her leisure time Mary was a committed and accomplished bridge player. John Austin's untimely death in 1972 at age 47 left a void in Mary's life. Not everyone gets a second act but in meeting and marrying George Patterson Mary got just that.They were married thirty-two years until George's death in October 2013. Mary is survived by Linda Stooksberry (Gary), John A.Lee Jr. (Deborah Sue), Stephen Lee (Connie) and Laura Lee. Grandchildren, John Harlon Fields (Camie) John Austin Lee III, Eugenia "Genie" Lockwood (Alexander), Mathew Fields (Brooke) and Abby Lee. Great grandchildren: Isabela "Bella" Lee, Harlon Fields, Callie Fields,Hayden Fields, Lainey Fields, Mary Fields, Roman Lockwood and Oscar Lockwood. Through her marriage to George Patterson, Mary is survived by his son Richard Patterson (Helen) and daughter Amy Jeffries (Jim) and grandchildren Anne Weaver (Curt), Katherine Griffin (Grant),Sarah Patterson, Margaret Patterson. Great grandchildren Thomas Schoch Weaver, William Reynolds Griffin, Helen Driver and George Curtis. Pallbearers: Austin Lee, John Fields, Mathew Fields, Alexander Lockwood, Knox Ridley Jr., Kent Coleman.
