Mary Lou Smotherman Parsley, age 77 of Murfreesboro, died Wednesday, June 20, 2011 at Middle Tennessee Medical Center. She was a native of Murfreesboro and the daughter of the late Rollie Houston and Mary Blankenship Smotherman. She was also preceded in death by her husband, James Larry Parsley, Sr., sister, Betty Jo Smotherman and brother-in-law, Benjamin Louis Parsley. Funeral service will be 10:00am Saturday at Woodfin Memorial Chapel. Burial will be in Roselawn Memorial Gardens. Members of the Rutherford County Sheriff's Department will serve as Pallbearers. She is survived by son, James "Jimmie" L. Parsley, Jr and his wife Lila Marcene Riley Parsley of Murfreesboro, sisters, Nancy Ann Barnett of Shelbyville, Martha Sue Madeo and her husband Joseph F. Madeo, III of Murfreesboro, grandchildren, James Larry "Trey" Parsley, III, Benjamin Kyle Parsley, and Mary Elizabeth Parsley, great grandchildren, Anna Bella Renea Denise Parsley, and sister-in-law, Linda Gene Parsley Hyde all of Murfreesboro. Mrs. Parsley attended training school, was a 1953 graduate of Murfreesboro Central High School and attended MTSU. She joined the sheriff's office in 1990 as a warrants clerk, transferred to the detention center in 1997, and became an administrative clerk in 2007. She greeted visitors at the sheriff's office with a smile in the front lobby and always took time to make people feel welcome.
