MARY ETHEL FREIDA WILLIAMS MARTIN age 83 of Murfreesboro, TN, went home to be with her Lord and has rejoined her husband, Chester Robin Martin who she loved and missed very much, on Thursday December 24, 2009. A native of St. Louis, MO, she was the daughter of the late Edward and Bertha Louise Gerberding Williams. Mrs. Martin is survived by her daughters, Mary Barone Martin of Murfreesboro, TN and Cheslynn Ann Martin of Winston Salem, NC; brother Edward Williams of Phoenix, AZ; grandchildren, Kristin, Jessica, Joy, Andrew, and Kate Martin. She was preceded in death by her brothers and sisters, Cissy, Lee, Roy, Edna, Louise, and Bill. Her love of family, wit, compassion and strength will be greatly missed. Funeral services will be 10:00AM Wednesday at First Presbyterian Church with Rev. John Hinkle, Jr. and Rev. Kaye Nickell officiating. Burial will be in the Stones River National Battlefield. Mrs. Martin was an active member of First Presbyterian Church which she loved. An alumna of Ohio State University, masters at the University of Memphis, and Doctorate of Education from University of Tennessee at Knoxville, Dr. Martin was a Professor in the College of Education for 13 years at MTSU and Dean of the Graduate School. She retired in 1994. Dr. Martin was a master teacher all her life and was named Teacher of the Year at MTSU. Memorials in memory of Dr. Martin may be made to the American Heart Association or to the Chester R. and Mary E. Martin Graduate Scholarship at MTSU. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.
