Mary Vivian Johnson Key, age 84, resident of Murfreesboro, Tennessee, went to be with the Lord on Wednesday morning, July 5th, 2017 at her home in Murfreesboro.
Mary Vivian was born October 25th, 1932 in New Bethel Community near Rossville, Tennessee. She was the oldest of four children born to Reuben Sterling Johnson, Sr. and Evon Miller Johnson. Affectionately known as "Vip" she was a 1950 graduate of Fayette County High School, where she was the co-captain of the ladies basketball team. In addition, she enjoyed horseback riding, golf, art, piano and traveling the world.
She was married to Charles Key in September 1951 and together they owned and operated a variety of retail businesses in Somerville for nearly forty years.
She is survived by her three sons, Chuck Key (Sheri) of Burke, Virginia, Russell Key (Tongia), and Gary Key, all of Murfreesboro, Tennessee; her sister, Bonnie Morris of Somerville, brothers, R.S. Johnson, Jr. of Somerville, and William Ray Johnson of Melbourne, Florida; four grandsons – Justin, Chad, Alex and Carson Key, a great-grandson, Wilder Key and a great-granddaughter, Nora Key.
Mary Vivian is preceded in death by her parents, R.S. Johnson, Sr. and Evon Johnson and her longtime companion Donald Davies of Salinas, California. Mary Vivian was a member of Immanuel Baptist Church in Murfreesboro.
