Mary Frances Ballentine Jenkins, age 88 of Murfreesboro, passed away Monday, June 6, 2016. She is the wife of the late Dr. Charles Thomas Jenkins and the daughter of the late Benjamin and Ida Lee Freeze.
She was also preceded in death by her first husband, Kenneth Ballentine; three brothers, John H. Freeze, Kenneth Freeze and Bruce Freeze; two sisters, Leona Pewitt and Virginia Grissom.
Survivors include two daughters, Benja B. Spooneybarger and her husband Jimmy from Pennsacola, FL and Mary Beth Walkup and her husband Tom from Lascassas; a son, Charles Thomas Jenkins Jr. and his wife Sally from Summerville, S.C.; a brother, Clinton Freeze of Lawrenceburg; seven grandchildren, Meghan Norris, Annah Royal, Meredith Walkup, Katherine Walkup, Claire Jenkins, Tommy Jenkins, William Jenkins and four great-grandchildren.
Mrs. Jenkins was a member of Kingwood Heights Church of Christ. She was an avid gardener who especially loved Irises, and was a long-time member of the Mid-State Iris Society as well as a retired judge for the American Iris Society. Mrs. Jenkins was also a member of the Flower Grower's Garden Club who took great pride in her yard and enjoyed sharing her "Little Bit of Heaven" with others.
Funeral services for Mrs. Jenkins will be 3:00 p.m. Thursday at Woodfin Memorial Chapel with Tony Holt officiating. Burial will follow in Evergreen Cemetery with family and friends serving as pallbearers. Visitation will be two hours prior to the time of service.
The family wishes to thank the DaVita staff and caregiver Jessica Felter for their continued love and support. Memorials may be made in honor of Mrs. Jenkins to the Churches of Christ Disaster Relief Effort or the American Kidney Society.
