August 19, 1922 – March 8, 2017
Mary Emma King Graves, age 94 of Smyrna, died March 8, 2017. She was born in the Old Jefferson community of Rutherford County, and was the daughter of the late Ollie Mae Waller King and Joe Harris King. Mrs. Graves was preceded in death by her husband of 65 years, Ernest Lee Graves; and siblings, Joe Harris, Jr., Bennie, Roy, August "Babe," Robert Neal "Pud," Fannie Watt, Libby and Margaret.
She is survived by her children Sam (Gwen) Graves of Smyrna, Tom (Sandy) Graves of Murfreesboro, Melinda Graves (Lyron) Potts of Smyrna, and Ernest (Connie) Graves of Murfreesboro. One brother, Bill (Roswitha) King of Washington, MO; sister-in-law, Lotus Graves of Nashville, TN. Grandchildren: Sam Graves, Jr., Sherry Graves Landtroop, Leah Graves, Andrew Graves, Michael Potts, David Potts, Phillip Graves, and Luke Graves; five great grandchildren, John Graves, Logan Potts, Emma Potts, Kellyn Potts and Kimber Potts.
Funeral service to be held 2:00 p.m. Saturday, March 11 at Smyrna First United Methodist Church with Rev. Loyd Mabry and Rev. Holley Potts officiating. Burial in Mapleview Cemetery. Memorials in memory of Mrs. Graves may be made to the Smyrna First United Methodist Church, 301 Sam Davis Road, Smyrna, TN.
Mrs. Graves was a 1940 graduate of Smyrna High School where she played on the girls basketball team. She was a homemaker and former director/teacher of the Smyrna First United Methodist kindergarten. She was a member of Smyrna First United Methodist Church and the Willing Workers Sunday School Class. She loved quilting but above all, she loved her family and friends.
Active Pallbearers will be Sam Graves, Jr., Chad Landtroop, Andrew Graves, Michael Potts, David Potts, Phillip Graves, Luke Graves and John Graves. Honorary Pallbearers will be members of the Willing Workers Sunday School Class of Smyrna First United Methodist Church.
Visitation with the family will be 4:00 – 8:00 p.m., Friday at Woodfin Funeral Chapel, Smyrna, TN; and 1:00 – 1:45 p.m., Saturday at Smyrna First United Methodist Church.
The family would especially like to thank the Staff of The Waterford in Smyrna and Avalon Hospice for not only the care you provided, but the love that you shared with Mrs. Graves. She loved you.
