Mary Jane Godwin, age 89, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family at Sunnington Assisted Living in Murfreesboro on Sunday, September 3rd.  Mrs. Godwin is survived by her daughter, Janet Woods (Robert) of Kansas City, MO and her son, Glen Godwin (Karen) of Murfreesboro. She is also survived by four grandchildren, Brian Woods (Jacki) of Kansas City, MO, Kevin Woods (Mark Martin) of San Diego, CA, and Mandy and Ben Godwin of Murfreesboro and is survived by a great grand-son Eli Woods.  Mrs. Godwin is survived by her sister, Billie Hayes Crowell of Shelbyville, Tennessee.

Mrs. Godwin was preceded in death by her husband, C.L. Godwin, her father W.D. Hayes and mother Helen Smartt Hayes, her sister June Garrett, brother Buddy Hayes, and sister Phyllis Anne Hobbs.

Mrs. Godwin was a retired educational assistant at Eakin Elementary School in Shelbyville where she served for over 25 years and delighted staff, children, and parents by sharing her gift of piano and organ music.

Mrs. Godwin loved playing piano with her friends and traveled the world as a devoted military spouse before retiring in Shelbyville with her family.

A memorial service celebrating Mrs. Godwin's life will be held on Saturday, October 7, 2017 at Woodfin Memorial Chapel in Murfreesboro, Tennessee. Visitation with the family will begin at 11:00 AM with services beginning at 1:00 PM.

She will be dearly missed by her family and friends.
