Mary Katherine Batey Lane, age 92, of Murfreesboro, TN, died Wednesday June 13, 2012. A native of Rutherford County, she was the daughter of the late James Morton Batey, Sr. and Janie Talley Batey. Mrs. Lane was also preceded in death by her husband, Joe Patton Lane, Sr., who died in 2000, and by a brother, James Morton Batey, Jr. Mrs. Lane is survived by her sons, John B. Lane of Murfreesboro, TN; Joe P. Lane and his wife Benita McFarlin Lane of Carthage, TN; grandchildren, Joe Patton Lane, III, Brian Batey Lane and his wife Jennifer, all of Murfreesboro, TN; and, Alan Black Lane and his wife Angela of Carthage, TN; great-grandchildren, Allison and Thomas Lane of Carthage, TN, and Madeline and William Lane both of Murfreesboro, TN. Funeral services will be 4:00 PM Saturday at Woodfin Funeral Chapel, Murfreesboro, with Rev. Bryan Brooks and Rev. Gayle T. Watson officiating. Burial will follow in Roselawn Memorial Gardens with John L. Batey, Jr., Patton, Brian, Alan, Miles, Paul, Bill, and W. K. Lane serving as pallbearers. Mrs. Lane was a member of the Blackman United Methodist Church and was a retired secretary from the Alvin C. York VA Medical Center where she had served as secretary to the Chief of Staff for many years. She enjoyed living on her farm that had been in her family for generations. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Blackman United Methodist Church Building Fund. The family wishes to thank the staff of Adams Place Extended Health Care for their loving care of Mrs. Lane.
