Marvin Edwin James, age 83, was born to eternal life on June 19, 2009. He passed away at home surrounded by his family, and wonderful caregivers following a difficult struggle with Parkinsons disease. Mr. James is survived by his beloved wife of 60 years, Mary Jo Roberts James, of Murfreesboro TN; his son Gregory James and his wife, Patti, of Murfreesboro TN, and his daughter, Kathy James Ionson and her husband, Scott, of New Berlin, WI. He is also survived by his brother, Sanders James of McEwen, TN, and by grandchildren, Erin Ionson ONeill, Mundelein, IL; Brian Ionson, Franklin, WI; Cameron James, Spring Hill, TN; Joshua James, Jonathon James and Andrew James, all of Murfreesboro, TN. Mr. James also leaves three wonderful great-grandchildren Megan, Conner and Liam. He is preceded in death by his parents John James and Rosa Sanders James; and siblings Ray James, Herbert James, Buford (B.B.) James, Clifford Cleo James, Lois James, Edith James, Mildred James Knight, Bernice James Stringer, Margaret James Taylor, and an infant who was stillborn. Mr. James grew up in Poplar Grove, TN and joined the United States Navy at age 17. He served as Quartermaster aboard the USS LST 530 and saw action at Gold Beach in Normandy during the D-Day Invasion. He and his shipmates then proudly served his country in the Pacific Theater until the end of the war. Mr. James earned an MBA from Michigan State University in 1972. In 1973, he returned to Tennessee from Detroit, MI. He worked for D.A.B. Industries for most of his carrier in manufacturing management and then as a sales executive until retirement in 1987. He loved singing, was an avid bird hunter in his earlier days and more recently enjoyed going to the MTSU Recreation Center regularly for many years and had wonderful friends there. Mr. James family wishes to express their appreciation for the excellent care he received at Adams Place. Caris Hospice, through its compassionate nurses and caregivers, helped make it possible for him to peacefully enter into Gods loving arms at home. We are grateful for all of their assistance, expertise and support. Finally, Sr. Helpers sent Beatryce to help Mr. James and his family when they most needed it. The funeral service will be held at the same Woodfin Chapel in Smyrna on Monday, June 22, 2009 at 10:00 am. A graveside memorial service at the Sanders Cemetery in Poplar Grove, TN will be held following the funeral at 2:00 pm.
