Martha Jean Martens, age 78 of Murfreesboro, TN passed away January 17, 2015. Born in Washington City, Iowa, she was the middle daughter of the late Robert and Gertrude Stephens. Mrs. Martens, or Marty as she liked to be called, is survived by her devoted and loving husband Dennis and her two sons, David and James, and sisters, Barbara Hagist and Mary Jane Lyons. Marty was a strong, funny and caring wife and mother. As a mother, she raised her children with the strong, no nonsense approach of always having a smile on her face and being the source of love and never ending patience. As a wife, she loved activities that she could share and enjoy with her husband Dennis. Traveling, playing golf, her pets and working around the yard gardening and planting flowers were the top of the list. She loved the peaceful times as well, reading in the evening when all work was done. The world was a beautiful place to her, and her family was blessed for many years. She will be missed. A private family service will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers the family request donations be made to the Rutherford County pet adoption and welfare services.
