Marie Tipton Sternberger, age 86 of Knoxville, TN, passed away Sunday August, 11, 2013. A long time resident of Knoxville, TN, she was the daughter of the late George Franklin and Gladys Kyle Lawson Tipton. Mrs. Sternberger was also preceded in death by her husband,Saul Sternberger, Jr. MD; brothers, Roy, William, James and Gilbert Tipton, and sisters, Gladys Elizabeth Bentley and Reba Snyder. Mrs. Sternberger is survived by her daughters, Leslie Malachowsky of Florence, SC, Susan Sternberger of Raleigh, NC, Paula Hinson of Louisville, KY, and Janice Reeves of Murfreesboro, TN; sister, Margie Ingram of Tampa, FL; grandchildren, Holly Whitsell of Knoxville, TN and Jennie Bowling of Nashville, TN; great grandson, Mackenzie Immenhort of Knoxville, TN, and numerous nieces and nephews. Mrs. Sternberger was a member of the Methodist Church , a graduate of Central High School in Knoxville, TN and a retired Registered Nurse. She also served as an Army Nurse Cadet. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Caris Healthcare in Murfreesboro, TN or to the Mobile Meals or Interfaith Health Clinic both in Knoxville, TN, in memory of Mrs. Sternberger.
