A section taken from The History of East Main Church of Christ states the following: Sunday School Teacher for Longest Period of Time: Ruth Woodruff Odom has served as a Sunday school teacher for the longest period of time. She began teaching at the Westvue Church of Christ in 1938, transferring to East Main in 1946. In 1951 Brother Elmer Newsom, then Sunday school superintendent, asked her to teach the two and three year old class. She accepted and continued in that role for more than 37 years. During that time, she shared duties with Mrs. Betty Cunningham and later Mrs. Sandra Borras. In those many years of service to our Lord, Mrs. Odom touched the lives of so many. She was always a very supportive wife to her loving husband Dr. Eugene P. Odom who practiced medicine here in Rutherford County for over 50 years. Pallbearers will be the grandsons of Mrs. Odom and David Dobson, Eddy Barrett and Dr. Owen Barrett. East Main Street Church of Christ elders and deacons, and Keith Reed and Charles Mingle will serve as honorary pallbearers. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Middle Tennessee Christian School that Mrs. Odom supported for many years. Visitation will be from 4PM to 8PM on Sunday, April 1 at Woodfin Memorial Chapel, 615-893-5151. Online condolences can be made at www.woodfinchapel.com.
