Obituary


Lucy Eileen Utt, age 74, of Murfreesboro, Tennessee passed away peacefully on October 4, 2023, after a battle with Lewy Body Dementia. She was preceded in death by her husband, David Lewis Utt and her parents, Harold Vernon Francis and Jeanne Faye Francis.

A retired administrative social worker, Lucy spent most of her career enjoying policy work for the State of Tennessee Commission on Aging and Disability. Her various roles for the State included Aging Services Supervisor, State Health Insurance Assistance Program (SHIP) Coordinator, and Manager of the Veterans Directed Program. Lucy attended college as a single parent in her forties after her husband passed away, earning a bachelor's degree in social work from Middle Tennessee State University and a master's degree in social work from University of Tennessee, Knoxville.

She enjoyed going out to eat and traveling with her family, keeping up with current events in the news, and spending time with Molly, her Llewellin setter whom she referred to as her "baby dog."

Lucy is survived by daughter Kelly Utt-Grubb and her husband, Sam; son Dan Utt; grandsons Andrew Utt-Grubb, Christopher Utt-Grubb, Justin Turner; brothers Richard Francis, David Francis and his wife, Anne Marie Kempf, as well as nieces and nephews. She is also survived by honorary daughter Crystal Palone, her husband Beau, and their children Mackenzie and Emily Palone.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Tennessee Justice Center.

A Celebration of Life service will take place at Woodfin's Memorial Chapel on Saturday, October 21 at 4pm, with visitation beginning at 2pm.
