LTC (Ret) James L. "Jim" Rungee, Sr, age 84, of Murfreesboro, passed away peaceably on June 14, 2016. A Chattanooga native, he was the son of the late Joseph and Dollie Lundin Rungee. He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 55 years, Barbara Anne Smith Rungee, of Mulberry, TN, and brother, John Martin "Monte" Rungee of Chattanooga.

LTC (Ret) Rungee graduated from the University of Tennessee - Chattanooga in 1955. He spent 21 years active service in the United States Army. An Army aviator, he flew both rotor wing (UH-1 "Huey") and fixed wing (OV-1 "Mohawk") aircraft. He served in Korea, Vietnam, Venezuela, Chile and Panama, as well as numerous stateside assignments. His final assignment was as an ROTC instructor at MTSU (1972- 75). After his military retirement, he began a second career as a real estate agent with Bob Parks Realty. He served as the Foreman of the Rutherford County Grand Jury from 1995 - 2001.

LTC (Ret) Rungee is survived by his children, Dr. James L. (Cathy) Rungee, Jr, Julie Rungee (Gary) Cowen, and Teresa Rungee Hayes; a brother, Joseph Patton (Kay) Rungee of New Jersey, Sister-in-law Joy Davidson Rungee of Chattanooga, and 10 grandchildren - Amy (Mike) Cowen Chitwood, Garrison Cowen, Sallie Cowen, Jeb Cowen, Kate Rungee, Joseph Rungee, John Michael Rungee, Anna Rungee, James Hayes, and Julie Kate Hayes.

Visitation will be from 1:30 - 3:00 on Sunday, June 19, 2016 at the First Cumberland Presbyterian Church on Main Street.  A memorial service will be held at 3:00 PM, followed by a private family interment of his ashes. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to either First Cumberland Presbyterian Church, 907 E. Main St,. Murfreesboro, TN 37130 or Habitat For Humanity, 850 Mercury Blvd., Murfreesboro, TN 37130.
