Obituary

Mr. Lloyd Neal Pistole, age 66, of Lebanon, TN passed away Friday, January 12, 2018 in Murfreesboro, TN. He was born on September 27, 1951 in Anaheim, CA. He was a 1969 graduate of McMinnville City High School in Tennessee where he spent his boyhood years. Neal graduated from Middle Tennessee State University where he majored in French, History, and Art. He was retired from many years of library service at MTSU. He was also previously employed at Stones River Battlefield.

Neal was an avid lover of history, especially his family history, anything related to the civil war era, and Ireland. For many years he was involved in civil war reenacting and made many close friends. He had a special love of Ireland, especially the Aran Islands, and traveled there extensively. He was also involved for several years with the Boy Scouts of America. Neal was also a talented artist whose favorite medium was pen and ink. He once was commissioned to do art work for the old Readyville Mill. His art has been displayed at the Parthenon in Nashville.

Neal is survived by his mother, Mertie Pistole Clemons of McMinnville; children, Niles Alex Pistole of Murfreesboro and Elizabeth Nealy Pistole and her fiancé Sean James of Knoxville; step-sons, Jacob Schoenly of New York City, NY and Luke Schoenly of Chattanooga; sister, Scarlett Stout and her husband Phillip of McMinnville; brother, Larry Pistole and his wife Tere of St. Stephens Church, VA; nieces, Tara Mitchell Mielnik of Old Hickory and Susan Stout Gatlin of Cookeville; nephews, Alex Bennett Pistole and Tyler Scott Pistole of VA and Jonathan Stout of Murfreesboro; cousin, Tommy Markum of McMinnville; aunt, Ima "Tip" Pistole of OK; special friends, Ike Gatlin, Eric Martin, Patrick Craddock, and John Harding; and many others. He was preceded in death by his beloved father, Alex Pistole; loving grandparents, Loyde and Edith Swindell; step-father, Lannie Clemons; and great-nephew, Mitchell Patrick Mielnik. Neal was a loving father, son, brother, uncle, and friend and will be sadly missed by all who knew him.

The family wishes to express their heartfelt thanks to the critical care nurses at St. Thomas Rutherford Hospital who took such loving and compassionate care of Neal during his illness.

Visitation with the family will be on Monday, January 15, 2018 from 12:00noon until 2:00pm at The Experience Community Church, 521 Old Salem Rd, Murfreesboro, TN 37129. A Celebration of Life will be held on Monday, January 15, 2018 at 2:00pm at The Experience Community Church. Friends are invited to share their remembrances of time spent with Neal.

Memorials may be made on Go Fund Me to help Niles and Nealy scatter Neal's cremated remains in Ireland as was his wish.
