Linda Joyce Driver

Linda Joyce Durrett Driver, 78, of Smyrna, TN passed away peacefully on Friday, August 21, 2026, at Alive Hospice in Murfreesboro, TN. The Warren County, KY, native was born on October 20, 1947 to the late Samuel Joseph Durrett and Iona Bohannon Durrett of Bowling Green, KY.

Linda is survived by her loving husband of 60 years, Douglas White Driver; her beloved daughters, Stephanie Edwards (Dan) of Lawrenceburg, TN, and Angeline Driver of Murfreesboro, TN; and her three grandchildren, Kelsey Holsonback (Austin) of Brookland, AR, Benjamin Edwards (Caroline) of Lawrenceburg, TN, and Lauren Edwards of Lawrenceburg, TN; and one great grandchild, Carter Holsonback. She is also survived by her brothers, Samuel Gerald Durrett (Margaret) of Bowling Green, KY, and Gary Joseph Durrett (Cindy) of Tallahassee, FL & several nephews as well as a niece.

Linda was a servant of the Lord for almost 70 years. Her walk with the Lord was characterized by a humble spirit and a loving heart. She was a faithful member of the Perry Heights church of Christ in Nashville for well over 45 years. She graduated from Western Kentucky University in 1969 and earned her master’s degree in education from Middle Tennessee State University in 1990. Linda loved flowers, songbirds, magazines and newspapers, PBS shows, British comedies, easy listening music, and the color blue which brought out her stunning eyes. At home, she was always humming, or singing, sharing her inner joy with those around her.

If you were to think of a memory of Linda, she is likely smiling or laughing. She exemplified the passage from Proverbs 31:25: “Strength and dignity are her clothing, and she laughs without fear of the future.”

Linda would have denied any artistic talents, but she was a true master in the art of storytelling. Every family member and friend blessed enough to spend any time with her can likely recall fond memories with her as she shared a special story. She had a truly impressive memory for detail and family history. A highlight at the end of each year was taking the kids and grandkids to Saint George Island, FL, which she dearly loved. One of her many talents lay in making precious memories with those around her.

While many had a multitude of special names for Linda, her most important title was Christian, which was evident in every aspect of her life. It is a goal for many to emulate the woman of Proverbs 31, but upon contemplating the way Linda lived her life, we find it easy and accurate to rise up and call her blessed—she excelled them all. She was joyful in suffering, faithful in trials, and humble to the point of deflecting almost every attempt to tell her how special she was.

Visitation with the family will be Saturday, August 29, 2026 from 12:00-2:00 PM with the funeral to follow at 2:00 PM at Woodfin Chapel Smyrna. Burial will be at a later date at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens in Bowling Green, KY.
