Lilly Mae Bucher, known by most people as Miss Lilly, age 81, of Smyrna, Tennessee died January 1, 2011 of congestive heart failure. Although she was born in Obion County, Tennessee she called Smyrna home. She was the daughter of the late Evan and Helen Payton. She is also preceded in death by two sisters, Claudia Coleman and Earlene Thomason; and a granddaughter, Nisa Layne Nelms. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, January 6, at 11:00 a.m. at Woodfin Chapel Smyrna. Rev. Marshall Gupton and Rev. Joseph Patrick Breen will officiate. Burial will follow in Mapleview Cemetery where she will be laid to rest next to her late husband, Edward Earl Bucher, who passed away in 1993. Mrs. Bucher and her husband moved to Smyrna in 1956 when he was stationed at Sewart Air Force Base. After Mr. Bucher left the Air Force in 1964, they remained in Smyrna where they established several businesses. The most well known was Reggies Hair Salon. Mrs. Bucher, being an active business owner in Smyrna, would always call Mr. Sam Ridley, the mayor and give him a piece of her mind over issues regarding problems she had with the way he was running Smyrna. After getting these phone calls on a regular basis, he just started going to the beauty shop once a week for a haircut so Mrs. Bucher could air her grievances. This went on for well over 25 years. Mrs. Bucher is survived by two daughters Marsha Nelms Muawwad ( Rafik Muawwad, M.D.) of Washington, DC; Reggie Ross Arlington, Texas; son David (Donna) Bucher of Troy, Ohio; four grandchildren, Greg (Erin) Ross of Burleson, Texas, Thomas Bucher of Smyrna, Tn.,Sara Bucher of Columbus, Ohio, and Carolyn (David) McCormack of Gaithersburg, Maryland; Danny Ross; and two close nephews, Jim Thomason of Memphis, Tn. and Danny Coleman of Martin, Tn. along with many more nieces and nephews. She is also survived by her little constant companion for over 12 years, her doggie, Miss Daisy. Mrs. Bucher was a member of Trinity Christian Church in Smyrna, the Red Hat Society and Eastern Star. For many years she served as an officer of the Rutherford County Democratic Womens Association. When Mrs. Bucher moved to Texas last year to live with her daughter Reggie because she was no longer able to live alone, she always told everyone about Smyrna, the town where all the good people live. Mrs. Bucher was valiant facing her illness, but would always get homesick when talking about her wonderful friends in Smyrna that she had to leave behind. Pallbearers will be Greg Ross, Thomas Bucher, Jim Thomason, Michael Ray Thomason, Danny Coleman, Bill Coleman, Rafik Muawwad, Danny Ross and Ronnie Gandy.
