L.G. Bucy, 86, of Athens passed away Wednesday, September 13th, at Etowah Starr Regional Rehabilitation Center.
He was a native of Murfreesboro having moved to McMinn County January 1, 1970. He was owner of Southeastern Badger Sales, Inc. selling and installing farm equipment in Tennessee and surrounding states throughout his career. His association with Badger Northland, Kaukauna, Wisconsin Dealer Network won him many trips abroad and in 198, he was awarded Top Dealer in North America.
He was a member of Meridian Sun Lodge No 50 F & AM having served as master and a member of Chilhowee Shrine Club. For many years he served in an active clown unit as a white face clown, august clown and hillbilly clown until 1996 when a major stroke prevented his participation. He continued to entertain children with his wit and balloon art. He kept a pocket filled with Smiley Face rings to give to adults and children to bring joy to their day. He enjoyed family gatherings, croquet, Rook and enjoyed telling his jokes and traveling scenic backroads. He attended Englewood First Church of God.
He was preceded in death by his parents Ogle and Mamie Bucy; three brothers Johnny Bucy, James Bucy, and Charles Bucy; and sister Margaret Hayes.
Survivors include his wife of 61 years and loyal business partner Christine Burns Bucy; one son Barney Bucy (Tracie) of Roswell, GA; three daughters, Terrye Bucy (Tom Greer) of Brookhaven, GA, Stephanie Bucy of Etowah and Michelle Bucy of Athens. Three grandchildren; Trent and Anna Bucy of Roswell, GA and Bailey Cook of Athens; step-grandchildren, Hailie, Taylor and Hunter McGlon and Maddie Rose of Roswell, GA. Two sisters, Helen Harris of Stockbridge, GA and Clara Irwin of Arizona.
The family will receive friends Saturday, September 16th from 12:00noon until 3:00pm at Smith Funeral Home in Athens, TN. Burial will be the following Saturday, September 23rd at 4:00pm CDT in Burns Cemetery in Rockvale, TN.
