Letha Irene
Weathers
December 6, 1945 – April 5, 2022
Letha Irene Weathers, an amazing Sister, Mother, Grandmother and Friend, passed away from multiple complications after a five month battle with cancer at the age of 76.
Born in Kirksville, MO in 1945 to Maurice and Roberta Drury, Letha was the youngest of four girls. She graduated from Bethany Hospital School of Nursing in 1966 as a Registered Nurse. Married for more than 50 years to Doug Weathers until his death in 2021, she is survived by her three children; Clint Weathers, Monty Weathers, and Angela Weathers; her grandchildren Spencer Weathers, Ashtin Flores and McKenna Weathers, and two sisters, Sarah Brock and Mary Luchetti.
Letha was a voracious reader, a creative cook, an avid fan of the Far Side, and a plainspoken woman of unending kindness and generosity or pragmatic and forthright advice and wisdom for her family and friends - or anyone brave enough to ask her for it.
When her health allowed, Letha volunteered at the Smyrna Food Bank, and she was an active member of the Smyrna Senior Activity Center, with whom she and Doug enjoyed traveling across the country by bus. She was a zealous collector of dishware, glassware, and kitchen gadgets; but Letha is most famous for her ability to sniff out any bargain within a 60 mile radius of her Smyrna home – or within 10 miles of any exit from here to Missouri or New Mexico.
Being Grandma was the job Letha treasured the most. And of course, being the favorite Aunt to over a dozen nieces and nephews. Her grandchildren were the center of her heart and happiness, and her love for her family and friends was as boundless and bottomless as her tuna and noodles, her goulash or her pineapple upside down cake and cookies. Letha loved us all by giving so much of herself, and we will miss her tremendously.
You are my sunshine
My only sunshine
You make me happy
When skies are gray
You'll never know dear
How much I love you
Please don't take my sunshine away.
