Leonard Bill Pruitt, age 91 passed away at his home Monday, January 5, 2015. He was a native of Rutherford County and the son of the late Lethie and Savage Pruitt. He is survived by his wife of sixty-seven years, Sarah Sullivan Pruitt; surviving children, Donna Carroll of Murfreesboro, Keith Pruitt of Murfreesboro, Jay Pruitt and wife Isis of Knoxville, and Lieutenant Colonel Barry Pruitt and wife Vickie of Boston, MA. Four grandchildren, Angie Carroll of Florida, Beth Van Wieren and husband Brian of Michigan, Ginny Baxter and husband Stephen of Washington, Liam Pruitt of Knoxville, and four great-grandchildren. A veteran of World War II serving in the 483Rd Antiaircraft Artillery AW Battalion serving in the South Pacific US Army. He was awarded the World War II victory ribbon, good conduct medal, American Theatre Ribbon, AP Theater Ribbon and Two Bronze Service Stars, and a metal for being an expert marksman. Mr. Pruitt was employed at Seward Air Force Base for eighteen years in the Engineering Department. He also worked for the Alvin C. York Medical Center in Murfreesboro. Mr. Pruitt was a member of Third Baptist Church for over sixty years. He was an avid gardener and loved working in his yard. He loved to be around family and friends. He was a very competent and competitive Rook Player. Honorary pallbearers will be the Bob Norris Sunday School Class. Funeral service will be 11:00 AM Friday at Woodfin Memorial Chapel. Brother Mike Lee and Brother Steve Hutson will officiate. Burial will follow in Roselawn Memorial Gardens with Military Honors.
