Services for Leola Page Fouts, 93, of Murfreesboro, who died on Wednesday, April 20th, 2016, will be on Sunday, April 24th at 2:00 PM at North Boulevard Church of Christ with burial in Evergreen Cemetery. Visitation will be Saturday April 23rd from 4:00 until 8:00 PM at Woodfin Memorial Chapel.
A native of Lebanon, TN., she is survived by her brother Benson Page of Lebanon; her sister Agnes P. Hobson of Smyrna; her son Gary (Brenda) Fouts of New Hampshire, daughter Colleen (Bill) Lumpkin of Murfreesboro, daughter Deborah Coburn of Nashville, son Duane Fouts of Murfreesboro, son Doug (Patricia) Fouts of Murfreesboro, son Tim (Madeleine) Fouts of Nashville, 15 grandchildren, and 16 great-grandchildren. Preceded in death by her brother Douglass Page, and her daughter Constance Ann Fouts. She was the widow of Dalton C. Fouts who died in 1960.
Leola Fouts was a graduate of Lebanon High School and Middle TN State Teachers College where she earned a bachelor's in Education and a master's in Psychology. Mrs. Fouts, a life-long member of North Boulevard Church of Christ, was very active in her church and also in the community of Murfreesboro.
Professionally, Leola began her teaching career in a one-room schoolhouse during World War II. She retired after many years of teaching at McFadden Elementary School. She was a member and former president of AAUW, active member of The American Iris Society, Delta Kappa Gamma, The Optimistic Gardener's Club, Mid State Iris Association, former volunteer for The Hospital Auxiliary, and she implemented The Naomi Group at North Boulevard Church of Christ, a support group for widows.
She was a woman of strength, principle, and faith. Leola was a servant of a God, a pillar in the community and an anchor for her family.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Linebaugh Public Library.
