Kenneth "Ken" G. Salyers, age 78, passed away on Thursday, June 6, 2013 in Nashville, Tennessee. He was born June 17, 1934 to Robert Walker and Sallie Boothe Salyers in Hansonville, Virginia. On March 23, 1957 he married Reida Ferne Bowen in Big Stone Gap, Virginia. Survivors include his wife Reida; daughter Denise Gavin and her husband Kevin; son, Randolph Salyers; daughter, Amy Ady and her husband Marc; and daughter, Beth Victory and her husband Tim; granddaughter, Lauren Kirby; and grandsons, Matthew and Andrew Ady; granddaughter, Sarah Dunback and granddaughter, Kim Willig and her husband Zach; three great-grandchildren; as well as a special sister-in-law, Thelma Britton. He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert Walker Salyers and Sallie Boothe Salyers; brothers, Alvin Dent Salyers, John Wesley Salyers, William Russell Salyers and Charles S. Salyers. Ken founded Ken's Exterminating in February 1974 and remained the sole proprietor until February 2013. Ken's favorite pastime was fishing - he and his wife Reida spent many hours fishing on Kentucky and Reelfoot lakes. Ken was also an avid football and baseball fan. Ken is a past member of the Smyrna Lions Club as well as the Hardee's Early Morning Coffee Club. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather. Visitation will be Saturday from 4:00PM until 8:00PM at Woodfin Funeral Chapel in Smyrna on June 8, 2013. Funeral services for Ken will be held at Woodfin Funeral Chapel in Smyrna on Sunday, June 9, 2013 at 3:00PM. Ken will be laid to rest at the Mapleview Cemetery in Smyrna, TN immediately following the service. Pallbearers are Matthew Ady, Andrew Ady, Jeff Kirby, Jason Barnett, Larry Byrd and Lee Macomson. The family wishes to acknowledge the wonderful care from the in-home Alive Hospice personnel, most especially Amanda, Teresa, and Nanette.
