Kenneth Earl
Parkhurst
February 2, 1931 – January 14, 2018
Kenneth Earl Parkhurst passed away January 14, 2018. He was a long-time resident of Murfreesboro. He was preceded in death by his father and mother, Earl and Ava; his step-mother, Hettie Driver; and siblings, Dovie, Sylvia and Hugh.
He is survived by his wife, Bonnie; daughters, Deb Partin, Joy(Pat) Anderton, and Susan Adamson. He has three grandchildren, Amy and Hillary Anderton and Stuart Adamson, and wonderful nieces and nephews who cared and loved him deeply also survive him.
If you knew our father when he was a young whippersnapper, you probably saw him working in the tobacco fields of what is now a Tennessee Century Farm in Red Boiling Springs or on the basketball court playing center. Soon thereafter, he met the most beautiful woman that became his bride of 65 years, Bonnie. She made his favorite and best birthday cakes…always banana pudding.
If you knew our father when he was a barber, you probably admired your flat top and were well pleased with his talents. So much so that his commanding officer asked him if he would transfer to Washington D.C. so his favorite barber would be close by.
If you knew our father when he was in the Air Force and worked alongside of him on airplanes, you probably realized he was a dedicated Airman and hard worker. If daddy recruited you, it's probably because his salesmanship had been fostered through years of horse-trading with his buddies at various bases where he was stationed.
If you knew our father as the service department manager at Jackson Brothers Chevrolet and later as the small business owner of Ken's Rent-a-Car, you probably had complete confidence that "Good Deal" Parkhurst treated you right.
If you knew our father as a retiree, you probably saw him on Saturday mornings at Hardee's with his friends, or as a volunteer from Kingwood Church of Christ, where he was a member, for Disaster Relief. He enjoyed going to Talladega, fishing and most of all enjoyed the company of friends and family.
A celebration of life will be held Saturday, January 20, 1:00-2:45 p.m., at Woodfin Chapel in Murfreesboro followed by a military burial at Roselawn Memorial Gardens at 3:00 p.m.
