Obituary

Kenneth Knox Bumpas, Sr., age 83, died Thursday, September 6, 2012 at his home. Mr. Bumpas was born September 15, 1928 and was son of the late Joe and Dana Knox Bumpas. Mr. Bumpas spent his childhood in Nashville and attended West High School. After serving as a U.S. Marine, he earned his engineering degree while attending Middle Tennessee State University and the University of Tennessee. He was employed at the Tennessee Farmers Co-op of LaVergne for 29 years before starting the engineering firm Dunlap-Bumpas in Smyrna, TN. He was a former member of the Board of Directors at Stones River Manor, and was a former member of Smyrna Rotary Club and a Paul Harris Fellow.

Mr. Bumpas is survived by his devoted wife of 55 years Frances Howse Bumpas; son Kenneth K. Bumpas, Jr. and his wife Renee; daughters Leigh Ann Dobson and her husband Tommy both of Huntsville, AL, and Lori Bumpas of New York, NY; brother Thomas Bumpas, Jr. of Louisville, KY; nine grandchildren Joshua, Caroline and Joseph Dobson, Whitney, Amy, Kensley, Matthew K., Graham, and Zachary Bumpas; and two great-grandchildren Connor Dobson and Elijah Dobson.

Mr. Bumpas was a member of North Boulevard Church of Christ, where he served as a deacon. He was founder and scout master of troop 456 for many years. He was devoted to his family and was a servant above all, and faithfully walked with God for 83 years. He lived, loved and gave of his time to help those in need. We love you and are so thankful God blessed us with such a wonderful husband, father and grandfather.

Funeral service will be 3:00 PM Sunday at North Boulevard Church of Christ. Bro. Julian Goodpasture and Bro. David Young will officiate. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery. Grandsons and friends will serve as active pallbearers. Mens Sunday School Class at North Boulevard Church of Christ and Eagle Scouts will serve as honorary pallbearers.

Visitation will be 4:00 until 8:00 PM Saturday at Woodfin Memorial Chapel. Memorials may be made to Shiloh Ministries in NYC ( www.shilohnyc.org ) where Ken served as a volunteer project leader and engineer alongside his daughter Lori for the past ten years helping to equip youth in underserved NYC neighborhoods.
