Katherine Haynes Walkup, age 86, died Tuesday, October 8, 2013. A long-time resident of Smyrna, she was preceded in death by her parents, Grady William and Kate Crenshaw Haynes and her husband, William Tompkins Walkup. Funeral services will be at 10:00AM Friday at Smyrna Church of Christ. Brother Tim Lavender will officiate. Burial will follow in Evergreen Cemetery. Mrs. Walkup is survived by her two sons, William Walkup Jr. and his wife Tracy of Allen Park, MI and Joe Walkup and his wife Teresa of Franklin, TN; two daughters, Nina Foutch and her husband Todd of LaVergne, TN and Betsy Waldron and her husband David of LaVergne, TN; brother, Will Haynes and his wife Phyllis of Smyrna; grandchildren, Will and Kate Waldron, Lydia and Natalie Foutch, and William, Grady, Sarah and Josh Walkup. Mrs. Walkup was a member of Smyrna Church of Christ. She was a 1945 Graduate of Smyrna High School, a 1948 Graduate of UT and a 1951 Graduate of Peabody University. Mrs. Walkup served on the Board of Directors for the Linebaugh Library, the Sam Davis Memorial Association and the Rutherford County Nursing Home. She was a charter member of the Rutherford County Historical Society. Grandsons and family will serve as pallbearers. Memorials can be made to the Sam Davis Home, the Smyrna Public Library or to the Smyrna Church of Christ Missions Fund. Visitation will be from 2:00PM to 7:00PM Thursday at the Smyrna Church of Christ. Woodfin Chapel Smyrna is in charge of the arrangements.
