Juanita (Sanders) DeJarnatt, 90, of Manhattan, died Saturday, October 8, 2011 at Meadowlark Hills Retirement Community. Juanita was born in Iredell, Texas on July 19, 1921 to George Homer and Mollie Retta (Hudson) Sanders. She graduated from Iredell High School. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Manhattan. Before moving to Manhattan to be close to their daughter, Juanita and James lived in Murfreesboro, Tenn., after James retired from Travelers Insurance Company. She married James William DeJarnatt on November 24, 1943 in Kansas City, Mo. While James was serving overseas, Juanita lived with her mother in Iredell. James preceded her in death in September 2002. She was also preceded in death by one son James Richard: and sisters Carrie Potter; Ila Faye Sawyer; Wilda Mitchell; and Janeze Donham. Juanita was a homemaker. She was a talented seamstress and a wonderful baker. She especially enjoyed baking pies and cookies for her family. She is survived by one daughter and son-in-law Demerilus Ann and Charles Pearce of Manhattan, Kan.; two grandchildren Elspeth and Kira; sisters Opal Meador and her husband Jack of Waco, Tex.; and Iva Lee Plummer of Crane, Tex. Funeral Services will be held Thursday at 1:00 PM at Woodfin Memorial Chapel. Dr. Eugene Cotey will officiate. Burial will follow in Evergreen Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Pauls Episcopal Church, Manhattan, Kan. or the Manhattan Public Library-Talking Books.
