J.T. Burnette, age 91, of Smyrna, died Tuesday, February 1, 2011 at Mayfield Rehab Center. He was preceded in death by his wife, Edna Earle Beatey Burnette who died in 2004. Mr. Burnette was a native of Chattanooga, TN and the son of the late Thomas A. and Leila Briley Burnette. Mr. Burnette is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Brenda and Mike Sullivan of Alachua, FL, and Deborah and David Hill of Smyrna, two sisters; Fannie Mae Seymour and Lavina Taliaferro both of Chattanooga, three grandchildren; Michelle Ortiz, Timothy Sullivan and Stacey Redding, and three great grandchildren; Abigail Ortiz, Elizabeth Redding, and Walker Redding. Mr. Burnette was a member of Smyrna First United Methodist Church. He was a veteran of WWII, serving in the Pacific Theatre and a member of Sam Davis Masonic Lodge #661. He was a retired funeral director at Woodfin Chapel in Smyrna. Visitation will be after 10:00 A.M. Friday at Woodfin Chapel in Smyrna. Graveside Services will follow at 11:30 A.M. at Mapleview Cemetery. Rev. Bob Bush will officiate. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers. The family would like to express their appreciation to the staff and nurses at Mayfield Rehab Center and to the staff and volunteers of Caris Hospice for their tender loving care of their father.
