Joseph C. "Joe" Tenpenny, Jr. age 82 of Murfreesboro, TN, died Monday July 1, 2013. A native of Maryville, TN, he was the son of the late Joseph C. Tenpenny, Sr. and Ruby Alexander Tenpenny. Mr. Tenpenny was also preceded in death by his wife, Betty Overall Tenpenny who died in 1999. Mr. Tenpenny is survived by his sons, Joe C. Tenpenny, III and his wife Nerissa, William O. "Bill" Tenpenny and his wife Loralie; daughter, Katie Clemens and her husband Chuck all of Murfreesboro, TN; sister, Betty Tenpenny of Knoxville, TN; five grandchildren, Adam, Jonathan and Allie Tenpenny, Mary Kate Clemens, and Harding Jones. Graveside service will be 3:00 PM Friday at Evergreen Cemetery with Brother Kevin Dye officiating. Burial will follow in Evergreen Cemetery. A gathering of family and friends will be at Leanna Church of Christ following the graveside service. Mr. Tenpenny was a member of Leanna Church of Christ, a Korean War Veteran serving in the US Navy and the US Marines, and a retired local businessman. He was a graduate of MTSU and received his MBA from Michigan State University. Mr. Tenpenny had also been an instructor in the business department at MTSU and Tennessee State University.
