In Loving Memory of Jonathan Thomas Scudder 1979 - 2023

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Jon, whom many knew simply by his surname "Scudder" on Wednesday September 20, 2023. He was an extraordinary person whose presence made an impression on the lives of all who had the privilege of knowing him. He was called home at the age of 44, leaving behind a legacy of love, resilience, and enduring friendship.

Jon is survived by his devoted and outstanding parents: Ellen "Rena" (Dockery) Scudder and Ron Scudder as well as his younger sister, Mariellen "Mel" Scudder. Additionally, he is survived by numerous people from throughout his life who he considered to be his chosen family. Jon was a lifelong resident of Middle Tennessee and was a member of First Baptist Church in Murfreesboro, and Oakland High School's class of 1998. He was a proud Eagle Scout, and he carried his love of nature all through his life.

Jon attended Middle Tennessee State University where he was a member of The Kappa Alpha Order and subsequently earned his Associate's degree from Motlow State Community College. His diverse working years were spent within the fields of professional security, UPS, and amidst every aspect of the service industry, which provided him the opportunity to travel around almost every part of this country.

Jon was an ideal example of self-determination, courage, and tenacity. His journey that began in 2020 as a double lung transplant recipient showcased his unwavering positivity and remarkable strength in the face of overwhelming adversity. His will to remain here with his loved ones never once faltered. His personality was as vast as his hair …wait, no, his heart*, and his loyalty could be fierce.

Jon had the uncanny ability to bond with anyone that spent any amount of time with him. These connections ran deep and sharing in his company would leave an everlasting impact on everyone. His ability to befriend people from all walks of life was evidence of his genuine warmth, humor, and incomparable character.

Jon leaves each of us with a multitude of unforgettable stories, countless sources of laughter, and deeply cherished memories, which is a testament to how he lived his best life imaginable despite some significant challenges. He will be dearly missed by his family, friends, and those fortunate enough to have known him.

In lieu of flowers, the family would like to encourage everyone to register as organ donors to continue the legacy of giving and hope that Jon believed in. Your selfless act can save lives and honor his memory in a truly meaningful way. May his soul finally find eternal peace, and may his memory always have the power to uplift us when we need it most.
