John Moody Womack, age 90 of Murfreesboro died Friday, January 22, 2016. He was born July 15, 1925 in Manchester, TN to the late Mark Sanders and Ethel Moody Womack. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Kathryn Brown Womack (1975); his second wife, Frances Murphy Bostic Womack (2004) and stepson Don Bostic (2015). He is survived by his brother Mark S. (Betty) Womack of Chattanooga; children Molly Sasse (Gaylord) French of Chattanooga; Terry Ann Womack and John Moody Womack, Jr. (Jay) of Murfreesboro; stepson Bill (Kim) Bostic of Hendersonville; step daughter-in-law Debra Jo Bostic of Highland Village, TX; grandchildren Dave Teague of Chattanooga; Mary (Thomas) Coulter of Knoxville; step grandchildren; Ben Bostic of Nashville; Jordan (Scott) Grantham of Flower Mound Texas; Todd (Erica) Bostic of El Paso, TX and step great grandchild Grayson Bostic of El Paso, TX and several nieces and nephews.
Mr. Womack and his family moved to Murfreesboro in 1931 and he attended Training School and was a 1942 graduate of Central High School. Being too young to join the Army he went to work for the railroad. In 1944 he joined the Army and was a cryptologist for the Army Air Corp stationed in Ft. Nelson, British Columbia supporting the supply line between the US and Russia. He returned to Murfreesboro in 1946, married Kathryn Brown and they went off to the University of Tennessee where in four years earned his Bachelors and Law Degree in 1950. They returned to Murfreesboro where he got a job with Aladdin Industries in the transportation department. He then went to work at Wilson Trucking Co. in Nashville. In 1964, he accepted a job with Central and Southern Motor Freight Tariff Association in Louisville, KY where he served as counsel before becoming the Managing Director in 1970.
In 1988, he retired to Sarasota, FL for a life of golf, bridge and socializing. In 2005 he returned to Murfreesboro and settled in. He was an active member of St. Marks United Methodist Church where he served by singing in the choir, teaching Sunday School, providing the devotional for Methodist Men's breakfast meetings, serving communion and serving on several boards and committees. He enjoyed singing with the Choral Society; exercising with Marjorie at the Senior Center; working out at Sports*Com; his classmates from CHS 42; and spending time with his friends, especially Mrs. Lee Ridley Fly.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Mark's Church or Linebaugh Library.
A memorial service will be held at St. Marks's United Methodist Church at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, February 6 with a reception and visitation to follow. Private interment will be held at Evergreen Cemetery with the family
