Obituary

JOHN GENTRY STOCKARD, age 81 of Temple Terrace, Florida died May 28, 2008 in Dade City Florida. A native of the Bethel Community, he was the son of the late John G. and Blanche Robinson Stockard, Sr. Graveside service will be 11:00 am Saturday at Evergreen Cemetery. Rev. Grie Taylor will officiate. He is survived by his wife, Donna Montgomery Stockard; daughters, Laura Wotten and Lark Taylor both of Jackson, Tennessee and Jennifer Shadburn of Guys, Tennessee; sister, Sarah Mingle of Gallatin, Tennessee, and three grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Martha Lynn Pierce and two brothers, Frank and Thomas Stockard. He was a graduate of Murfreesboro Central High School and had attended MTSU. He began his career with the State of Tennessee Department of Agriculture in Knoxville where he opened his own Commercial Seed Laboratory, later he moved to New Albany, Indiana and opened Kentucky Seed Laboratory. He became active in church and community affairs and was Deacon in his church, President of the Rotary Club, Director of the Chamber of Commerce and other civic affairs. He later moved to Jackson, Tennessee where he was active again in Church and Fraternal affairs. He was President of the Jackson Shrine Club, a member of Andrew Jackson Masonic Lodge #45 and a member of Alcymia Shrine Temple. Later he moved to Tampa, Florida where he spent the remainder of his life in the Chemical and Equipment field. In Tampa he was a member of Egypt Temple Shrine and spent many hours as a volunteer at the Shrine Hospital for children.
