Obituary

John Errol Stanford of Murfreesboro, Tennessee passed away at his residence on July 1, 2013. He was born in Sunset, Louisiana to the late Alton Joseph and Evangeline Stanford. Funeral services will be Friday at 11:00 AM at Woodfin Memorial Chapel with Bro. Julian Goodpaster officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery. He is survived by his wife, Nancy, his college sweetheart whom he married in 1963; daughter Maureen (Matt) Caudle and grandchildren Kathleen Grace and John Owen Caudle; brothers Dale, Herman, Michael, Leo Paul, Alton and Owen Stanford and sister Barbara Nell Jarreau. He was preceded in death by brothers Clayton and Norman Stanford and sisters Cecile Johnson, Kathleen McBride, Martha Jane Manual, and Philomena Matte. He graduated from Sunset High School as an all-around athlete excelling in track, softball, football and boxing. Upon graduation from high school he served four years in the U.S. Air Force. He received his Bachelor of Science Degree and Master of Science from MTSU. He served as MTSU baseball coach and athletic director. Prior to that, he achieved successful coaching careers in baseball at Shelbyville High School and Motlow Junior College. He was inducted into the Tennessee Sports Hall of Fame in 2010. Active Pall Bearers are Matt Caudle, Jeff Day, Steve Peterson, Jim Simpson, Avery Smith and Reese Smith III. Honorary Pall Bearers are Dave Hall, Moir Hill, Jim Painter and Jackie Reavis. Visitation will be from 4:00 until 9:00 PM Wednesday at Woodfin Memorial Chapel. Memorials may be made to MTSU Blue Raider Baseball. Woodfin Memorial Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
