Obituary

John B. Richmond, age 87, of Murfreesboro passed away on April 13, 2011 at Middle Tennessee Medical Center following a brief illness. A native of Nappanee, Indiana, he has resided in Murfreesboro since 1969. He retired as President of Davidson Ladders, Inc. in 1991, and was an active member and elder of First Presbyterian Church. A proud veteran of World War II, he was a member of the Eighth Army of the Army Air Corps stationed in England, where he served as a co-pilot on the B-24 Liberator bomber. He was preceded in death by his parents, Chester and Gertrude Richmond, sisters Allegra Richmond and Kay Eby, and brother Wade Richmond., as well as his wife Mary Alice Robison Richmond. He is survived by daughter Marcie Richmond of Murfreesboro, son Bill (Martha) Richmond of Murfreesboro, son Steve (Cindy) Richmond of Hideaway, TX, granddaughter Courtney (Jim) Pack of Auburn, AL, grandsons Jack Richmond of Nashville, Mark Richmond of Knoxville, David Richmond of Hideaway, TX, and Brad Richmond of Murfreesboro, along with great grandchildren Logan, Chase and Mary Grace Pack of Auburn, AL. He graduated from Northwestern University in 1948 with a degree in business administration and went to work for S. C. Johnson Wax in Racine, WI where he served in a variety of executive positions before moving to Tennessee and investing in Davidson Ladders. He served on the Board of Directors of Discovery Center of Murfree Spring and was a former member of the Middle Tennessee Medical Center Development Foundation and a supporter of the Murfreesboro Symphony Orchestra. Following retirement he and Mary Alice enjoyed many wonderful trips abroad and throughout the United States. He resided at AdamsPlace Independent Living where he enjoyed playing bridge and the many important friendships he developed there over the years. Visitation with the family will be at Woodfin Funeral Chapel on Thursday, April 14 from 3:00 until 6:00 p.m. with the memorial service at the First Presbyterian Church on Friday, April 15 at 3:00 p.m. Rev. John Hinkle will officiate. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials to First Presbyterian Church, 210 N.
